Puppy Preschool

Puppy Preschool is conducted at Malibu Veterinary Hospital. They are held on a Tuesday evening between 6:30-7:30pm for 4 weeks.

The classes are taught by a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

They are designed for puppies between the ages of 8-16 weeks of age, as this is the peak socialisation and optimal training age and focus on desensitisation with exciting activities.

The classes are kept small and intimate so puppies can learn how to socialise and interact with each other in a safe, nurturing environment. Basic obedience and puppy health care is taught throughout the lessons. At the same time, the puppies are encouraged to make new friends and participate in some fun play.

Puppy pre-school is an essential step in allowing your puppy to grow into a well-adjusted and well-socialised friendly adult dog that is comfortable with other people and dogs to help you as an owner in the future. All owners are encouraged to ask questions throughout the classes.

Some of the topics we cover include:

- Nutrition.

- Dental care.

- Desexing.

- Grooming.
- Appropriate socialisation.
- Training techniques.
- Flea and worm preventative treatments.
- Vaccinations and diseases to be aware of.
- Microchipping, registration and pet insurance.

- Managing early signs of behavioural problems.

On graduation night we have a dedicated off-lead play time for the puppies to interact, and we will also help teach commands (Sit, Drop, Come, Stay) each week.

At the end of the 4 weeks we have a graduation night, where the puppies will receive a graduation certificate, graduation cap and a goodie bag. All puppies will also have a graduation photo taken (with owner's consent).
